Angela M Says:
Travelling alone can be one of the best experiences that you will ever have. You just need to remember to be sensible, wherever you go. Don’t wander the streets at night-time alone and if you are unsure about the area that you are staying in, there must be somebody, on site, who could advise you as to the best places to visit, without beeing subject to any hidden dangers.. Have a good time and don’t advertise the fact that you are a lone traveller.
Roger Says:
Europe is similar culturally to America so it should be ok. I live in London and life is very ‘normal’ here. Just do the usual things every body else does. If you are at a nightclub at 3am then things might be less predictable. There are millions of attractive people in Europe. You won’t get noticed particularly. Just start off conventionally and slowly learn what the situation is by talking to people. I guess hitch hiking in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere on your own would be dangerous anywhere. Make sure you get to know people before accepting their hospitality like you would in America. You could stay at youth hostels or hotels to meet similar people with more experience.
F T Says:
In some Southern European countries the guys are sometimes over attentive to single women. But generally Europe is way safer than the US and fine for lone female travellers.
PS – you might be attractive in the US, but i’m telling you that it’s quite likely that you will be very average in some countries, particularly to the East.
Joe Says:
Just remember. Stay on the beaten path, is the old saying. Dont stray away from known places. Also its a good idea to have a travl plan. Before you go map out all the places you will go and stop. Always stay where its easy to attract attention and just dont trust ne one. Never trust random people especially from over there, being, if you are as you say, attractive, and also american you would be easy to single out. Dont let yourself wander too far from where youve planned to be, and again make sure you stay where its generally easy to attract attention if need be.
mary Says:
Yes yes yes. I did it when I was 22. You just need to make sure not to trust ANYBODY, especially locals in the poorer countries, but even fellow travellers. I dont mean be suspicious of everybody, but keep your essentials close to you at all times, like your bank cards and passport. Make sure you never get so drunk you can look after yourself. Try and avoid being alone after dark – I pretty much never was, you will always find people to hang out with. Try and arrive places midday or morning.
Read the guidebooks and internet advice on where to avoid. You will be fine! It is so much fun!
vambo number five Says:
What’s safe? Nowhere is entirely “safe.” You probably aren’t as attractive as you think you are, incidentally. People who think they are, aren’t very often.
roger.wi Says:
Just ask yourself a question ” is it safe to walk our own streets these days?” I suspect there will unsafe places in every part of Europe but if you are careful and choose your contacts with caution you should be safe.
wallmeis Says:
You’ll be fine. Just use good sense. I would rank the safest of U.S. cities to be more dangerous than the least safe of western European cities.
Remember: Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
old know all Says:
Europe’s a big place. Most parts are safe, but some are not – just like everywhere else.
Orla C Says:
Yes, I have. It’s fine. You just need to be careful in some places, and use your common sense, but otherwise you should be okay.

when common sense and caution is used. why not right?
